Hot Water Beach

A Magical Natural Hot Spot

A truly unique experience, is digging your own thermal pool in Coromandel’s sandy beach and then soaking in the natural springs of bubbling hot waters you created.

Hot Water Beach is Coromandel’s most famous natural attractions, with natural underground thermal springs that filter up through the sand between high and low tide. It is located on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, about 12 km. south east of Whitianga in the North Island of New Zealand.

This natural phenomenon is a quite unique, as the beach is on top of underground hot springs, and during low-tide, the scene at the southern end of the beach is quite amazing with people digging holes in the sand, creating their own thermal pool.

The Coromandel Peninsula is a gorgeous region and although the Hot Water Beach is a star attraction, the beach also boasts some great surf, cafés and art galleries. Just 10 minutes drive at Hahei, is the iconic rock archway of Cathedral Cove.
