One of New Zealand’s most pristine and untouched national park with an incredible wilderness of native forests, towering mountains, valleys, glaciers and alpine lakes.

Mt Aspiring National Park straddling the ‘great divide’ of the Southern Alps presents a breath-taking range of landscapes. It forms part of the Te Wāhipounamu World Heritage, and was the awe-inspiring location for Isengard in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ film trilogy.

Established in 1964, Mount Aspiring National Park covers over 3,555 At its heart is a superb wilderness, glaciers, snowfields, mountains, lakes, valleys and abundance of wildlife. The park’s alpine areas are home to the threatened rock wren and the high-profile kea. To the west, the beech forest comes with a sound of birdsong and waterfalls. Northeast lies the Haast Pass, one of the main driving routes across the Southern Alps.

A hiker’s paradise, Mount Aspiring National Park offers a large number of short walks like the Blue Pools Track which leads to the Makarora River and swing-bridge onto the crystal clear Blue Pools at the mouth of Blue River. The longer hikes is through beautiful valleys, with options to traverse mountain saddles which include the Routeburn Track, the Dart/Rees River circuit, Greenstone/Caples and the Wilkin Valley tracks.

Experience the true expanse of Mt Aspiring National Park and take a scenic flight above the Southern Alps and be wowed by the rugged and hidden valleys the region is bursting with. You can also enjoy a jet boat ride on the Dart or Wilkin and Makarora rivers with spectacular views.
